Wasn't his pre-match meal six packets of crisps and a large bottle of coke?
Makes you wonder how much better he could have been if he'd taken on board modern fitness and nutrition, but not had his natural game coached out of him.
How would his eating habits helped him when a Wigan moran tried breaking his legs.

i also think hes the best i saw for us regularly
a player who physically reminded me of him is Jodi Jones of Dagenham (now Coventry) - obviously Dev was much better, but Jodi had the same scrawny appearance, gliding, dribbling, leaving players for dead
ironically now recovering from year long knee ligament injury

Seem to remember some football coach/scientist told him that he was the only player he saw with a change of pace. He slowed down towards the defender, then sped up and glided past them. 80 Cup Final the perfect example. Always wondered if he gave Mark Ward some tips because Ward displayed that skill at times as well.
Only jokey criticism I heard from one or two players about him was that generally he could have finished better and if he had he would have scored far more goals.
You just don't see players like that anymore. How he came back from that injury is incredible.

Cheers - super interview. Still remember so many of those moments, especially that 2-0 loss at home to Liverpool and Brian Moore saying that the West Ham fans were amazing. He said you would have thought the crowd were celebrating winning the League, not seeing their team relegated.

Lost some of his pace after a horrific injury and was good enough to adapt him game from a pacy winger to a silky playmaker type midfielder.
My favourite memory of post injury devo was a league game home to villa, 0-2 down, he came on as sub and turned the match on its head, including a memorable chip over Spink that hit the bar and went in off Derek Mountfield.

Being a wide left player in my younger days I really loved Dev as a a player in a good era for West Ham United. Had a beer with him when Torquay played Maidenhead early season, he is a real gent.

Dev was my favourite player, even though I only started watching in 85. Such a talented player. He danced through the Everton defence in that semi final.
A few other things I got from that video:
1. West Ham fans are amazing. Staying behind to clap the team after relegation.
2. John Lyall was an incredible manager and human being.
We all knew that. But also
3. Stuart Pearson was such an underrated player for us.

As well as our problems in recent years, injuries were also a common theme with West Ham and England.
Bonds selected to play towards the latter stages of his career. Injured.
Brooking, played, but suffered with injury in the 82 world cup.
Ashton, career ending tackle in England training session.
And Dev of course.
